Baton Rouge, LA - U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) continues speaking directly to Louisiana voters about the state's new closed primary system, including in a recent Letter to the Editor published by the Shreveport Times titled "Don't Miss Your Chance to Vote May 16," where he encourages Louisianans to prepare early and understand how the new system works.

In case you missed it, this letter is the latest initiative as Team Cassidy dedicates significant resources to educating voters on the state's new closed primary system. As part of the effort, Team Cassidy launched a new webpage and voter information video to help ensure Louisianans understand the new rules and the steps they need to take before Election Day.

What Voters Need to Know

Under Louisiana's new closed primary system for federal races:

  • Republicans vote in the Republican primary.

  • Democrats vote in the Democrat primary.

  • Voters registered as No Party will choose which party's ballot they want when they vote.

  • NOTE FOR NO PARTY: The ballot selection carries forward if the race advances to a runoff

Team Cassidy's voter education campaign is focused on making sure voters are informed well ahead of Election Day so no one is caught off guard at the polls.
