ICYMI: Team Cassidy Launches Voter Education Efforts

Baton Rouge, LA - U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) continues speaking directly to Louisiana voters about the state's new closed primary system, including in a recent Letter to the Editor published by the Shreveport Times titled "Don't Miss Your Chance to Vote May 16," where he encourages Louisianans to prepare early and understand how the new system works.

In the letter, Cassidy says, "The primary election is May 16, and for the first time, Louisiana's Senate race will be conducted under a closed party primary system. Republicans vote in the Republican primary. Democrats vote in the Democrat primary.

"Voters registered as No Party still have an important decision to make. When you arrive at the polls, you may choose which party's primary ballot you want to vote. That choice matters. If the race advances to a runoff, No Party voters must vote on the same party ballot they selected in the primary. Your first decision carries forward.

"Don't wait until Election Day to learn the rules. Take a minute now to confirmed your registration and understand how the new closed primary system works."

Under Louisiana's new closed primary system for federal races:

• Republicans vote in the Republican primary.

• Democrats vote in the Democrat primary.

• Voters registered as No Party will choose which party's ballot they want when they vote.

• NOTE FOR NO PARTY: The ballot selection carries forward if the race advances to a runoff

Team Cassidy's voter education campaign is focused on making sure voters are informed well ahead of Election Day so no one is caught off guard at the polls.

• April 25: Online registration deadline

• May 2-9: Early voting (excluding Sunday, May 3)
