Baton Rouge, LA — Liberal Julia Letlow had another awful week. See for yourself:

  • Fallout from her shocking advocacy for DEI and her proudly proclaiming she’s a “progressive leader” continues.

  • Louisianans started seeing TV advertising about “Progressive Leader” Letlow’s woke videos.

  • Speaking of TV – Liberal Letlow is being outspent on TV by John Fleming.

  • Speaking of the “Progressive Leader” video – Liberal Letlow still has not addressed this video.

News about the Louisiana Senate race this week focused on Letlow defending herself against her own words and on her flailing campaign:

Cassidy, boosted by a massive war chest, has been outspending Letlow for weeks. His campaign has combined with the Louisiana Freedom Fund, an outside group backing the senator, to pour more than $14 million into the race on ads, most of them attacks against Letlow. Letlow’s campaign and outside groups have combined to spend just $4.6 million, according to the tracking service AdImpact. People haven’t met her. She’s almost invisible as a candidate,” said East Baton Rouge Parish Chair Woody Jenkins.

Two outside groups are hitting state Treasurer John Fleming with attack ads, indicating that he now presents a rising threat to U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow’s election chances in Louisiana's Senate Republican primary.

In Louisiana, Cassidy’s campaign has dubbed his opponent “Liberal Letlow” following news reports that she championed DEI efforts while interviewing to be the president of the University of Louisiana Monroe — before she served in Congress.

In a 2020 video obtained by Fox News, Letlow is seen praising diversity efforts and calling the school’s lack of a diverse faculty “shameful.” She also said the university needed “a person around the table” to fight for diversity, equity and inclusion.

But Senator Bill Cassidy is putting up a fierce fight, and he quickly capitalized this week on old comments — on video — from Letlow in 2020 hailing the benefits of diversity, equity and inclusion programs as she applied for a university job. “I believe we need a division on this campus, a division of diversity, equity and inclusion,” she said then.

My colleague Kellen Browning wrote this week about how Letlow is a rare Republican to be forced to distance herself from Covid-era identity politics.
