Alexandria LA — U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) delivered remarks today at the Louisiana Republican Party’s Leadership Conference, joining fellow Republicans and party leaders to discuss the future of Louisiana.

Cassidy spoke about putting Louisiana families first, highlighting how he’s working alongside President Trump to secure our southern border, protect energy jobs, and defend Louisiana’s conservative values.
Cassidy underscored his record of conservative results, including ending surprise medical bills, passing the HALT Fentanyl Act, delivering billions for Louisiana infrastructure, and leading efforts to cut taxes for working families.
Remarks as Prepared:
I was in D.C. most of this week, working with the White House and my fellow Republicans to fight the Schumer Shutdown. I’d rather be here talking with you.
Let me address what you might be wondering: What is my relationship with President Trump?
It’s good. We’ve been working, fighting, and winning for you — for Louisiana and for our country. In my recent visits to the White House, the President has repeatedly thanked me and described me as “great” and “wonderful.”
Why? Because I voted with President Trump 90% and 99% of the time during his first and second terms. Three of President Trump’s Cabinet Secretaries have their jobs because of me.
After Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was confirmed, Charlie Kirk texted and posted on X thanking me. After I cast the deciding vote for Pete Hegseth, Donald Trump Jr. tweeted his thanks to Bill Cassidy.
The President shares my concerns for you. Lilly Harvey is here tonight. She’s one of too many parents who lost a child to fentanyl. I heard their pain and wrote and passed the HALT Fentanyl Act.
In one of the 11 times I’ve been invited to the White House since President Trump took office, I stood directly behind him as he signed the bill. He said, “The HALT Fentanyl Act will be one of the most important bills I sign.”
It started with Lilly Harvey and others sharing their pain. Lilly, you changed our country. Please stand.
This is why I’m running for re-election — to listen, work, fight, and win for you.
Speaking of listening and working for you — State Representative Mike Johnson led the charge in asking Congress to repeal WEP and GPO. Working with President Trump, I passed that repeal through the Senate. It’s brought over $500 million to more than 100,000 Louisiana retirees — teachers, firefighters, and others.
I’ve mentioned Lilly and the WEP and GPO repeal. Another example is Jeremy Aydell from Livingston Parish. Jeremy read that the OBBB was eliminating taxes on tips for waitresses. He called and asked that barbers, hairdressers, and beauticians be included.
Jeremy called. I listened. We changed the OBBB — and now there are no taxes on tips for barbers, hairdressers, and beauticians. For these hardworking Americans, Jeremy changed their present and their future. Please stand, Jeremy, and give him a hand.
I was at the table negotiating the OBBB. I was also at the table negotiating the Infrastructure Bill — making sure it was paid for and that Louisiana benefited. Since then, Louisiana has received over $11 billion for roads, bridges, levees, flood mitigation, ports, sewer and water projects, and coastal restoration.
You want someone at the table? I am.
What am I for?
I am pro-life.
I am pro–oil and gas.
I am pro–Second Amendment. I have the highest rating in the federal delegation from the NSSF.
What am I against?
I am against boys in girls’ bathrooms.
I am against men competing in women’s sports.
And as a committee chairman, I worked with President Trump to make sure your federal tax dollars can’t be spent on sex-change operations for children.
Some don’t like my style. They strut like a peacock and think it’s grown-up to have a potty mouth like a child on a playground. But peacocks aren’t always effective. I believe there’s a better way.
In the Gospel of Mark, Chapter 10, Verses 42–44, Jesus says to His disciples:
“You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them…
But among you it shall not be so. Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be the servant of all.”
I finish by asking for your support — as I listen to you and continue to work, fight, and win with President Trump to serve the United States of America, to serve Louisiana, and to serve you.
