Baton Rouge, LA — Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) delivered a major victory for Louisiana’s retired teachers, firefighters, police officers, and public servants by helping fully repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).

“As Senator, I worked tirelessly on legislation to repeal WEP and GPO,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This win is for over 94,000 Louisianans who are now part of the retroactive Social Security payments being returned to public servants across America. Because of my work, they are finally getting the Social Security benefits they deserve.”

Because of Cassidy’s work, Louisiana retirees are now seeing larger monthly Social Security checks, while $669 million in retroactive payments have already gone back into the pockets of hardworking Louisianans who were unfairly shortchanged for years.
